Re: Cliff Change/Volumetric Calculations
Hi, you do not necessarily need to go through a meshing phase. Since the cliffs seem relatively straight : (I) first rotate the data : you can fit a plane and apply the transformation that CC gives you to get your data horizontally (ii) follow a workflow similar to this paper https://esurf.copernicu...

Re: Use GPU instead of CPU during training and classification
Hi, The bottleneck at training is due to the random forest algorithm not being parallelized in the openCV library that we use. It's too bad because it's an algorithm that is well suited for parallelization, but there does not seem to be a project to get this part of the openCV library improved. Now,...

Re: qCANUPO (classifier files, etc.)
Dear all, our team has released 3DMASC, a version of CANUPO on steroids : . you can have any number of classes . you have a much larger range of geometric features you can use, but also intensity, RGB, Echo based features (for Airborne LiDAR) (CANUPO was only using 2 geometric features per scales) ....

Issue with .bin save and load in latest alpha release (02/01/2023)
Hi Daniel, simple test: I load 2 point clouds, create a group with the 2. Save the group as .bin. no issue When I try to reload the .bin (in the same CC instance, or with a new), I get an error 'File seems to be corrupted"/ Failde to read file (file position: xxx/xxx). Tried with a variety of p...

Re: Using CloudComPy to extend CANUPO for point cloud classification
Hi, thanks for your detailed response, very good ideas for referencing and link to your work (love the stuff on tracking trees to map landslide deformation !). I've put releasing 3DMASC on my plate. I'll discuss with my colleagues to get a paper out discussing some of the innovative aspects of 3DMAS...

Re: Using CloudComPy to extend CANUPO for point cloud classification
Indeed we have developped a plugin (called 3DMASC) with colleagues in applied maths, and Daniel for the (paid for) implementation. This plugin has actually been ready for 2 years...it does all you suggest (using the OpenCV library for the random forest training in CC), is command line ready and even...

Re: qCANUPO (classifier files, etc.)
Hi, I'm just a co-author of Canupo with N. Brodu, but it's money from projects I run that funded the implementation in Cloudcompare. I've now asked Daniel to make qCanupo open source As for your request, Canupo is a binary classifier using geometry. If the difference between limestome, marls etc... ...

Statistics on scalar fields
Hi Daniel, There's a batch export info on point clouds that can be used to export various info on individual point clouds contained in a directory of the DB tree. However, it'd be great to have a simple option in the Scalar Field menu to simply compute the mean and std of the displayed scalar field ...

Re: qCANUPO (classifier files, etc.)
Ah yes...my dept has updated its webpages recently, and the Canupo page got lost (arrghhh). I'll need to fix that at some point. Thanks Daniel for putting the classifier files back online.
