Basic measurements: volume, area, depth

Post by Juanolo »

Hello,

My name is Juan Torregrosa. I'm a researcher of health sciencies. Now i'm doing my PhD and i need to know if CloudCompare can work for me.

I have scanned some Wounds and i want to measure their volume, área and depth. Then i want to compare the evolution of this wounds comparing the scans.

It is possible with the software? If it is possible... can you help me to achieve this?

Any help is much apreciated.

Thanks for advance

CloudCompare will only help you compte the volume difference between two epochs as well as the distances (depth?). And you can compute the area but it depends on how you define it?

Hello Daniel,

Thanks for the answer.

For example, i have a mesh of a leg scanned by a time-of-flight sensor. I have marked with some markers de border of the wound. Then in a software (cloud compare also?) i need to remove all of the surfaces which are outside the markers... Then, i have a surface mesh with "depression" or hole in the middle.

With this, i want to measure the volume of the "hole = wound" the deeper point of the hole and the area of the hole... If you can help me, i can scan phantoma.

Do you think it is possible?

Thanks a lot.

You will indeed be able to segment the wound out with CC. But computing the 'implicit' volume is not straightforward...
