M3C2 Plugin changes position of some points in the cloud

Post by EftyD »

Hi,

I used the M3C2 plugin to calculate the signed distance between two point-clouds. When I use this plugin, I get a scalar field which contains the signed distances, which is exactly what someone expects to get. However, as a result of this action, some of the points in the point-cloud are displaced/change position. Does anyone know why does this happen? I will appreciate any of your help. Thanks.

The points should not be displaced. In the default mode, they are subsampled (see the 'core points' option) and the result can be projected on either the first or the second cloud.

So if you select the right cloud for the distance projection (I believe this is in the latest tab) and you compute the distances on all points, then you should get the same cloud.
