trouble with .las to .ascii

Post by Pamela »

I'm working on my undergraduate thesis with a point cloud which is in a .las format. The trouble is when exporting to a .ascii file, I just see separated tiny points (attached image). I need the PC in the ascii format in order to work in the DSE (discontinuity set extractor) developed by Riquelme (https://personal.ua.es/en/ariquelme/wik ... iderations). How can I fix this? Thank you.

When you load the LAS file, do you enable the Global Shift as suggested by CloudCompare? And does this global shift allows the coordinates to be much smaller?

Don't hesitate to send me the LAS file (admin [at] cloudcompare.org) if you want me to check.

Good morning Daniel, thanks for the answer. Yes, I enable the Global Shift, but when converting the cloud to a ascii format I see the tiny points as I said before (attached photo of the ascii PC). I solved this problem with the free LAStool (https://rapidlasso.com/lastools/), and now the PC is displayed as a black cloud. I can work with that black cloud in DSE, so there is no problem.
