Importing cloud with normals

Post by edballo »

Hello!
I'm trying to import a point cloud into CC keeping the normals but I'm having trouble.
I tried with PLY (either Binary and Ascii) and PTS, and CC manage to import it but without normals. Then I tried to import an ASC file, and once I've set up all the columns, it is not possible to click on "apply". I've attached a screenshot of the dialog window.

I don't know if I'm doing something wrong and would thank if you could help me!

That's odd, it looks like CC is considering that all the columns contain 'text'. What is your decimal parameter on your system? The point or the comma? (well it shouldn't matter for CC actually, but there might be a glitch).

Otherwise, can you share the file with me? (admin [at] cloudcompare.org).

Thank you very much for your answer!

I am trying to share with you a dropbox link, because I couldn't find any other way to attach such a heavy file (5.1Gb)!

Thanks again! :D

Okay, so I updated CC so that it can load your file:
- CC can now load ASCII files with mixed whitespaces (spaces and tabulations)
- CC can now load ASCII files with a comma as decimal character (see the checkbox 'use comma as decimal character' on the bottom right).

Basically, when you see the ASCII file loading dialog, force CC to use 'whitespaces' first, then check the 'use comma as decimal character' checkbox. And the file should be loaded ;)

This can be done only with the latest 2.11.alpha version online.
