Aligning a point cloud to targets

Post by Red »

Hi
I have a scan that has picked up 3 reference points that are tied to a local coordinate system.
Is there a way to align the point cloud to these points without using another cloud for the registration? I do have a mesh that I have aligned the cloud to but it is really low resolution (points every 1m-2m)
Thanks

With 3 points you can still try to use the 'Point pair based alignment' tool (https://www.cloudcompare.org/doc/wiki/i ... itle=Align).

You can use it with a single cloud, and input the reference points manually (with the 'pen' icon).

Mind that doing that with only 3 points (especially if they are close to each other) is quite unreliable ;)
