2.11.0 on Ubuntu doesn't start

CloudCompare was updated yesterday on my notebook and as a result it won't start. The splash screen appears and disappears and nothing happens. I am using Ubuntu 16.04. Previous version 2.10 was working fine.

The bug report on github did not attract feedback. Is there a way to install an older version of the program in Ubuntu? I searched in the forum but found no information on this.
