Density in Poisson Surface Reconstruction

To which quantity and spatial unit the density in Poisson Surface Reconstruction refers?

I guess it's the number of points close to each 'node' of the octree? The more points are close to this node, the more likely this piece of surface will be close to the original cloud (and accurate).
