Hello,
I compared two similar mesh files in cloud compare and now I have a mesh file with a scalar field showing the distance differences between the two in color. I would like to export this mesh with the scalar field as a ply or fbx. How do I do this? Every time I save this file and open it in Windows 3D viewer there is no longer any color on the model. I would like to keep the color from the scalar field when exporting my mesh file as a ply or fbx.
Have a great day!
Export Mesh with Scalar Field Colors
Re: Export Mesh with Scalar Field Colors
So the scalar field should be saved in the PLY file, but I guess Windows 3D viewer doesn't know what to do with this information...
But you can convert the scalar field with the current color scale to RGB colors (Edit > Scalar field > Convert to RGB). Maybe that will help (either with the PLY or the FBX format).

Re: Export Mesh with Scalar Field Colors
Hi daniel,
This was helpful. I was not able to get the file to open with color in windows 3d viewer. However, I was able to import it into Rhino with color. I did this by converting to RGB then saving only the converted vertices as a ply binary file. Thank you.
