To test the differences between meshes created by two different software programs, I compared the mesh-to-mesh distances between two identical meshes (same file) and two very similar meshes (from two different files). Unexpectedly, I found a discrepancy in the mesh-to-mesh distance between the two identical meshes created by one software (see attached picture). When I performed the same test on a mesh created by another software, the RMS value was 0, as expected.
What could be causing this issue? Why is there a deviation in the mesh-to-mesh distance between identical meshes?

Well, hard to say, but looking at the value, that's probably a pure numerical accuracy issue.
