Hello CloudCompare,
I am using CloudCompare for an academic study. To find the difference between point clouds and surfaces obtained from two different systems, I use the "Compute cloud/mesh distance" function to obtain the standard deviation. Is there a chance I could learn how you calculate the standard deviation in mathematical formula form?
Compute cloud/mesh distance
Re: Compute cloud/mesh distance
Well, you can find that anywhere, and for instance on Wikipedia:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Standard_deviation
In effect, we use this formula: https://wikimedia.org/api/rest_v1/media ... eae355dbfa
<< the standard deviation is equal to the square root of the difference between the average of the squares of the values and the square of the average value. >>
