Dataset FREHEL/AIN las 1.4

Post by lfroment »

Hello,

I am currently working on cloud classification using 3DMASC. I've encountered an issue: the feature using NIR is not available due to the point format of the LAS file you posted on your website for the AIN/FREHEL datasets. The NIR feature is part of point format 8, which is only supported by LAS 1.4. However, the files you provided are in LAS 1.2.

Is this correct? Do you have any datasets with LAS 1.4 version (point format 8) that you could share with us?

Thank you!

We have two lasers in our sensor, one 1064nm (aka 'NIR') and one 532nm (aka 'green').

'green_' files are points measured with the green laser, 'NIR_' files are points measured with the NIR laser. We do not use the NIR field of the las format, we have two different lasers which point in sightly different directions.

Yeah, you're right, LAS 1.2 doesn't support NIR, so if you're relying on that for 3DMASC, it's a bit of a roadblock. I ran into something similar before and had to either look for LAS 1.4 files elsewhere or convert my own using tools like LASTools, assuming the raw data had NIR to begin with. Might be worth asking if they have the original data in a newer format or if there's any plan to release it.
