Micro Relief

Post by XavierV »

Hello I'm a new user of tis fantastic application.

I would like to know how i can bring out micro relief on a high quality dense point cloud of a stone which has graffiti or lapidary sign.
More Generally, i would like to use CC in archaeology of architecture, to have a better view of the pases of a wall by appliying differents filter.

does someone have good relults with "Convert to HSV" or qPCV - ShadeVis Ambient Occlusion ?

i hope i made my point :)

thank you for the help

Indeed, qPCV is generally a good option. To get good results, you must first segment the could around the scripture and make the resulting (roughly planar) cloud horizontal. See for instance 'Developing a low cost 3D imaging solution for inscribed stone surface analysis' by Adam Spring.

You can also try to simply enable the EDL shader (qEDL plugin). It gives sometimes interesting results (but it's less accurate than qPCV as it's a real time approximation). Make sure the point cloud is displayed without any color or normals.

And I don't have any feedback about the HSV-based visualisation for this kind of application. Someone else might have more info about it?
