Surface fitting accuracy

Post by Tarvo »

As I have understood the fitting of a plane to a point cloud is done using the Least Squares fitting in both cases, the Delaunay 2.5D (best fitting plane) and using just Fit - plane. After fitting a surface into a point cloud, is there a way to see the accuracy of the least squares fitting?

With 'Fit > Plane' you get the RMS (in the Console) which is a first info on the fit quality.

But on any case you can select both the cloud and the fitted surface and then compute the Cloud/Mesh distances (with Tools > Distances > Cloud/Mesh dist). This way you'll get more info and you'll also get the error for each point.
