Make a mesh into a solid

Hi, sorry if this is a stupid question, I am wanting to compare 2 meshes one is of a scanned impresion and the other is of an object. I am trying to see if the object has made the impression. Is there any way of making the meshes a solid item so when I bring the 2 together they dont actualy merge rather sit on top of each other? Hope that makes sence.

You should be able to get something working if you first manually register the two objects (i.e. put them almost in the right place). Then use the ICP algorithm by specifying a quite low 'overlap' ratio. You should also make the smaller one move (I guess it's the impression scan?).

If you have hard time finding the right parameters, don't hesitate to send me a snapshot of your data.
