Hi all,
I'm using cluodcompare in order to realize a geomechanical characterization of a rock mass and to identify the dip/dip direction of the fractures. I've tried the Facets (Plugin) but the rock mass is intensely fracturated and the algorithm doesn't fit the facets in the best way. Is it possible to change the shape of the facets or to create manually polygons to define dip and dip direction?
Thank you very much indeed for your help

Characterization of a rock mass
Re: Characterization of a rock mass
You can segment your cloud in multiple parts and fit a facet manually on each of them (with Tools > Fit > Facet). But it can be a pretty long process ;)
And have you played with the qFacets parameters? Some of them can be tricky...

Hi Daniel,
I haven't played with the qFacets parameters yet. I will try to follow your advices.
Thank you very much for your quick reply.

Re: Characterization of a rock mass
One way you can go is selecting several points and exporting them to txt file, determine your normal vector to the plane defined by the polygon and then compute the dip and dip direction. This is not tricky but can be tedious having multiple discontinuities.
