Points on stl surface

Evening,

I'm impressed with this software its pretty smart. I'm after a way to get points on an stl surface, at sections across the surface. I can use the sub sample to get an array of points, but is there a way to do them in lines.

Say you set up a line of planes, and where the plane intersects the surface it creates a point.

The only way I see is to use the 'Trace polyline tool' (http://www.cloudcompare.org/doc/wiki/in ... e_polyline). However you'll have to look at the object from the right direction to get the right result.
