Normally it should work, but it depends on your scalar field and how you set the value (which can be tricky)

unfortunately i fear that there's a bug since a couple of versions.

Setting the correct values is tricky indeed, but at least when you see a success with two values for the spacing of the SF it should also work when you just switch these values. The result should be simply inverted but this is not the case. Instead the higher spacing value is taken for the entire cloud and not "along the SF".
