Point cloud comparison

Post by dmct_56 »

Hi I have recently downloaded CC and am new to working these type of softwares. What I am currently doing is monitoring coastline elevation and volume; I`ve been using three different dates: before and after a hurricane, this way I will be able to determine geomorphical change through time. What I want to do is determine elevation changes and volume if possible using point clouds. What might you suggest? Also when generating any scalar field I´ve noticed the color scale doesn´t show information regarding the values corresponding to each scale.

Hi, I think for your application the best tool should be "M3C2": http://www.cloudcompare.org/doc/wiki/in ... PluginM3C2. I think its author (Dimitri Lague) will be glad to answer your questions.

Otherwise there's the more simple cloud-cloud distance function (http://www.cloudcompare.org/doc/wiki/in ... dCloudDist).

And for volume calculation, there's no 'out-of-the-box' solution yet. You can look at this thread: http://www.danielgm.net/cc/forum/viewtopic.php?t=755.
