Calibrate a Cloud

Hello, I'm very new in 3D scanning. :)

I've scanned a geometry with the Artec MHT Scanner and exported the mesh into Cloudcompare in order to calibrate the 3D Model. (I couldn't find how to export direktly a Cloud with colour Information).

I've placed different ground control points in the 3D Model where I know the Coordinates in x,y,z and so I want to use the aling funktion calibrating my 3D model to the exact coordinates.

Cloud Compare takes the Cloud as a solid cloud, so the passingpoints are nearly at the right place but not exactly. Is there a funktion to handle the Cloud more liquid, slightly deform it, so it fits correclty to my reference points?

Vielen herzlichen Dank!
Kindly regards

Michael

Nope, you can tell CC to change the scale but the registration is always 'rigid'.

Hello Daniel,
thank you for your quick answer. Do you know another program that can handle my problems?

Regards,
Michael

Well, non-rigid registration algorithms do exist (there's even a plugin in CC to do this) but you need to provide another cloud/mesh as reference (and not single references). Moreover they can't be used on a lot of points.

Otherwise I don't know any software that would let you do what you are trying to achieve.

Hello daniel,
whats the name of this plugin? Maybe I could try to find a solution.

Thanks a lot.

It's qGMMReg (qGMMRegPlugin - available in the latest version only). It hasn't any wiki page yet but it is based on the work by Jian and Vemuri:
https://code.google.com/p/gmmreg/

Don't expect to make it work on more than 5.000 or 10.000 points...
