Hi there

I am new to this technology and would like to know what the file size limitation is for PTX and PTS files from a Leica scan. We have had a few done yesterday and the larger file, which has a lot of detail, is 16.5 GB and doesn't seem to be loadable. What size do we have to get it down to ??

Hi,

The limiting factor is more the the number of points than the file size. However, you won't be able to load more than 1 billion points with CloudCompare. And with the GUI version, you shouldn't load more than 300 or 400 millions if you want to be able to actually work with them (and you'd better have a good graphic card ;).

Thanks - I think the surveyor has actually opened it - I am waiting for a new desktop pc to work on these, my next question is about monitor resolution. What is the best resolution that Cloud Compare can work on (it says the 4K screens are not compatible), how about 1920 x 1080 or 2560 x 1440. I am using PC not Mac.
