Can't open CC bin file, says "Malformed"

Have created a large (?) (124Mb) file which I've saved regularly through CC, representing months of work. Soon after saving I attempted to open the file, and CC reported "An error occurred while opening <filename>: Malformed file"

This is very distressing - Is there a way to inspect the bin to determine the "malformity"? Might a later version of CC (I'm currently using v2.5.2) correct it? Or some other possible fix? I would rather not send the actual file if possible.

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

Two options:
- either the file has been corrupted at saving time (not very likely, but it can happen on some systems)
- or you have encountered a rare bug... which is of course possible, especially with such an old version (almost 3 years old?!)

In the second case, if you are very lucky then you can try to load the file in a newer version. But I doubt it will fix the issue. The only other solution is to send me the file and I may be able to recover what can be recovered (if the file is corrupted then it may not be very much).

And please if possible upgrade CC to the latest version as soon as possible ;)

Thanks for your quick reply :-)

I'll try opening it - with fingers crossed - in the latest version, and am checking if a non-corrupt backup exists or a deleted version can be recovered. I suspect opening the file in CC Viewer will produce the same result, but I'll try that too. As for sending the file (128Mb), that's a last resort - thanks for the offer :-)

This issue aside, thank you for a great tool: I've found it convenient, easy to use, and accurate enough for my needs. It's a tool I use regularly - keep up the good work!

I've installed the latest stable version of CloudCompare (v2.7) and it was able to open and correctly display almost all of the "malformed" file, enough to suit my needs after saving the "recovered" file. So, it seems either I'm "very lucky" or you've done a nice job with the latest version!

Thank you for your kind offer to examine the file, and also thanks for providing CloudCompare :-)
