point cloud size

Post by brynjaro »

Hi! so first of all i want to say i love this program, helped me out so much!
however, i do have som troubles. My point clouds are kinda big, the one now is about 32 Gb, and CC chrashes before i get it finished.
is there something i can do to prevent this? Had similar problems before, but it has just barely made it.. now it doesnt seem likely that will happen.
I start the program with the "high performance nvidia processor". Not that good with computers either, but is there maybe a way to allocate more RAM (or anything that may be the issue)?

Hope someone have any help for me!

Clouds are not loaded in the GPU (graphic card) memory but in the system RAM. So the more you have the better.

Also, the file size (32Gb - I presume it's the file size) is not that important. What is important is the number of points. Do you know how many there are? And can you try not to load some of its contents (remove the normals, etc.). Of course it depends on the file type.
