Exporting RAW data

Hi,

I have just starting using cloud compare to use for fossil identification. I've generated the colour maps displaying the distance variation between the two meshes and produced the histogram and Gausien distribution however, I want to develop these values further.

How do you export the RAW data used to generate the colour maps/ histogram. I've clicked on the CSV file and I get "Couldn't find any facet in current selection?"

Is exporting the RAW data possible? If so can you inform me of what I could be doing wrong.

Yes, you have to select the point cloud (holding the distances) and export it as text/ASCII. If you set the output file extension to 'csv' and choose the right options (separator, etc.) you'll get a decent CSV file that you can import in Excel, or Matlab, etc.

Thanks Daniel,

I'm still getting this error however therefore I must be doing something wrong in the previous steps.

1) I first upload both meshes being compared.

2) Both meshes were selected to create point clouds (100000 points) (Point sampling on mesh)

3) Select both clouds

4) Click on Compute cloud/cloud distance

5) It produces colour points onto one of the mesh (I assume this is the one holding the distance?) I select this one and then click on the button up the top of the page (CSV)

6) I still get the error ("Couldn't find any facet in current selection?)

Any ideas on what I am doing incorrectly

2) Normally you should only sample one mesh (the compared one) and keep the other mesh as the 'reference entity'. This way you can use the cloud-to-mesh distances that are more robust and are signed... but it has nothing to do with your error.

5) This particular tool is a tool which is part of the qFacet plugin. You can't use it like that ;). Follow my previous message, but use the 'File > Save' method...
