How to visualize a depth map as a 3D model ?

Post by VictorN »

Hi.

I have an orthophoto with a Digital Model Surface (DSM). The orthophoto is an image 500x500x1, with RGB format, and the DSM is a 500x500x1 matrix which associates each pixel with a depth.

I would like to visualize this as a 3D model but I don't know how to do with Cloud Compare.

Cloud Compare views my DSM like a color model, how to switch the interpretation of the Z coordonate as a depth and not as a color ?

In case it is not clear, my DSM is not a matrix representing x,y,z coordinates. It is not a 3D model.
It is a matrix, which associates to each point of the orthophoto, a depth (from -3000 to 5000)

With best regards,

Victor

When loading a raster, first make sure to select the 'RASTER grid' filter in the file loading dialog.

Then, normally, you should have a scalar field associated to the (2D) point cloud. Named 'Scalar field' or 'Intensity'. Make sure this scalar field is active, and then use 'Edit > Scalar fields > Set SF as coordinate' (and select the Z coordinate).

If you only have RGB values, then I fear you won't be able to retrieve the Z coordinate.
