CC and Nvidia M4000

Post by geocad01 »

Hello,

Thank you for sharing and maintaining this amazing software.
I have installed CC on a decent workstation (DELL Precision Tower 5810) having Xeon 1630 V3 CPU Nvidia M4000 GPU with the latest drivers installed (at least for the GPU)
When I start CC I get this:
"[16:45:34] CloudCompare started!
[16:45:35] [3D View 1] Graphics card manufacturer: NVIDIA Corporation
[16:45:35] [3D View 1] Renderer: Quadro M4000/PCIe/SSE2
[16:45:35] [3D View 1] GL version: 4.5.0 NVIDIA 376.84
[16:45:35] [3D View 1] GLSL Version: 4.50 NVIDIA
[16:45:35] [3D View 1] VBOs available
[16:45:35] [3D View 1] Shaders available
[16:45:35] [3D View 1] GL filters available
[16:45:35] [3D View 1] Color ramp shader loaded successfully
[16:45:35] [3D View 1] Stereo mode: not supported
[16:45:35] [ccGLWindow] 3D view initialized
[16:45:35] [Global Shift] Max abs. coord = 1e+4 / max abs. diag = 1e+6"

...and all looks good
The problem I have is that when I open a max 2 Gb Point cloud as *.e57 aggregated in Faro Scene, and from a Faro scanner It loads pretty slow ana when I try to use the cut tool the CC freezes or closes or respond very very slow, depending on the moment. For example, with merged point cloud selected, when I select the cut tool, the icons of the menu appear after ~3 min and if I can make the selection without crashing, the action completes after more than 10 minutes and this behavior indicate the somewhere something is "choked"

Did anyone experience such behavior? There is a way to identify where the problem is and to fix it?
In task manager, I get only "not responding" for CC.

Thank you,
Bogdan

What's the number of points?

It's clearly a bit strange... Especially the time it takes to react. Are the Quadro drivers up to date?

The point clouds included in *.e57 file have about 100M points in total. On another machine, HP Z440 having NVidia K2200 there is no problem with segment (cut) tool or with anything else regarding CC functions, having open the same point cloud.
Yes, I installed the last drivers for the GPU available on Nvidia website.

I have tested the same point cloud with the same machine (DELL Precision Tower 5810) with another GPU (AMD radeon R7- 1G) and CC works just fine.
As I said the last drivers are installed for the M4000 (8Gb) GPU.

Just want to let you know that the issue was solved by reinstalling -with clean install option selected - the Nvidia drivers.
Thanks!
