EDL as RGB Values

Post by devanko »

I am currently working with a point cloud that does not have any RGB values associated with it. I can get a great visualization of the point cloud and its finer details by activating the intensity scalar field with the Dip [0-90] color scale and turning on the eye dome lighting shader. However, I need to export the scan to another software that does not have shaders, so I am again stuck with a point cloud with features that are hard to see.

Is it possible to save my scalar field with EDL as RGB values so I can mimic this look when exporting my cloud? I read a previous post from years back that stated it wasn't possible, but I wanted to see if there was any new info on this, or if anyone could suggest an alternate approach I could take.

Thanks, I appreciate any advice I can get on this.

Nope, because EDL is applied to the pixels and not the 3D points (so some points might be hidden, etc.).

However, the ShadeVis/PCV plugin gives generally similar or even better results (and per-point).
