Version of CloudCompare too old though using latest version

Post by DaveOZ »

Hi all,

I recently got a new laptop (Windows 11) and installed the latest version of cloud compare (2.12.4). Ever since I can't open some CC *.bin files any more as it refuses to do so with the error message
This version of CloudCompare is too old and can't load this file, sorry
which does not make sense to me as I am on the latest version.

Some bin files work fine but many result in the above error. I unfortunately don't know with which version these files have been created and I was unable to find a pattern, e.g. based on creation date. I haven't found any files prior to September 2022 that were affected, but while there are files from December 2022 that work, early 2023 is affected again and then newer files than that are not.

The result is the same regardless of using the GUI or the command line.

Is there any way I can find out more information why this is failing?

PS: The board search resulted in an SQL error and the google results were from years ago.

Cheers,
dave

The latest version is 2.13.beta ;)

'beta' just means it's not officially released and still evolving, but it's quite stable already.
