Dxf export issue from the qSRA plugin

Post by khofling »

Hello,

I have just started using the qSRA plugin to map the wear of a rotating machine part and find it really useful.
In the last release notes I read (and saw some pictures) that it was possible to export profiles in dxf format which would be very beneficial for me.

My problem now is that when I try to open the exported dxf files in a dxf viewer (I have tried both AutoDesk DWG TrueView and Microsoft Office Visio) I get a message that the file is corrupted.

Does anyone have any ideas on what might be the problem or some other dwg/dxf viewer that might work to open the files.

Thanks in advance!

Best regards,

K Hofling

You're right! Before shipping the latest release I forgot to patch the library that is used to generate DXF files! (there's a known bug and I totally forgot to check this...).

I'll generate fixed versions that I'll post here asap (so stay tuned ;).

Ok the new (beta) releases are online (see http://www.cloudcompare.org/release).

Thanks for the feedback.

I've updated the documentation of qSRA by the way:

Hi again,

I´ve played around a bit with the export of the dxf files now and got a new question.

Even though the wear of my part is asymmetric, which can be seen in the 2D map, it seems that in the exported DXF-file all the vertical profiles look the same.

Is it only the average distance between the profile and the cloud that is exported in the dxf or how does it work?

Have you set a high enough magnification? So that you can actually see the deviations from the theoretical profile? Otherwise you'll mainly see the theoretical profile (and if you have a cylindrical shape, all sections will look the same).

If I misunderstood your issue, don't hesitate to post snapshots ;)

I think you misunderstood what I meant so here comes some screenshots.. ;)

My 2D-map looks like this:
Concave_Wear_2D_map.jpg
Concave_Wear_2D_map.jpg (160.89 KiB) Viewed 6308 times
As you can see the wear profile differs a bit around the part (0-360 degrees).

When extracting the dxf files though they look exactly the same, with the exact same values, on all different positions: (I´ve attached the 0 and 180 deg screenshots but they all look exactly the same)
Concave_Wear_0deg_profile.jpg
Concave_Wear_0deg_profile.jpg (51.73 KiB) Viewed 6308 times
Concave_Wear_180deg_profile.jpg
Concave_Wear_180deg_profile.jpg (51.85 KiB) Viewed 6308 times
So my question now is if this is an average wear profile for the whole part/rotation and if that is the case is it possible to get these profiles separate for each position around the part?

Hopefully my question is clearer now... =)

Well, in fact I hoped to find a good explanation, but this is very strange indeed ;)

You should get for each angle a different profile... I fear it's a bug again (in fact you are a kind of beta tester, as this plugin has just been released). Do you have the same issue with horizontal profiles?

I'll fix the bug and issue a new "beta" version asap.
